Our Story
The Valley
For over a decade, I ran a marketing company in New York City, built from the ground up. It gave me steady work and a solid living for my family, until the world was hit by a global pandemic. Business across every industry slowed, and the one thing I'd always had control over came to a halt.
In the years that followed, that steadiness disappeared. Rebuilding took longer than expected, and the purpose that once drove me started slipping away. At the same time, I was navigating health setbacks that were slowing me down, day by day.
I was at a crossroads, weighing options I never thought I'd have to consider. Shut the business down and go back to corporate life? Stick it out and build something new? Walk away entirely?
This was the valley I found myself wandering through. Dry. Uncertain. Waiting for something to move.
The Breath
On an ordinary Sunday, sitting in the back pew of our local church in Red Bank, the pastor gave a sermon on Ezekiel 37, where God shows the prophet a valley full of dry bones and asks a simple question: can these bones live again? God answers his own question. I will put breath into them, and they will live. Bones rattled. Tendons, flesh, and skin formed over them, and as God's breath entered their bodies, they rose to form a vast, living army.
God's breath. In Hebrew, ruach.
That word didn't leave me. I went home and told my wife, and we sat with it for days, coming back to the same idea. God's breath, powerful enough to raise the dead, felt like a calling we couldn't ignore. We'd been followers of Christ since we were young, and we knew there was more of this to share, faith carried through story the way scripture has always carried it.
The Shore
We asked ourselves what that could look like. What better vehicle than something everyone owns and uses every day: clothing.
So many brands put faith on a shirt by printing scripture across it. Loud, unmissable. We wanted something quieter. Breath doesn't announce itself. It moves through something and changes it. That became Ruah.
We build capsule collections, small and considered, where every piece carries a story rooted in scripture and shaped by minimal, artistic design. Nothing shouted. Just woven in, waiting to be noticed.
Ruah is a Jersey Shore brand, built here, worn here first. We're inspired by the coastline itself: pink sunrises, thriving marine life, and waves that on the right day bring the kind of surf session or catch you remember for years.
That's where our line comes from: Born from wind, made for the journey. It's the same wind off the Atlantic, but make no mistake, it's God's breath. The journey might be surfing, fishing, or walking the shoreline, but we never forget who gave it to us, the same way we're walking our own journey of faith.
Whether you need inspiration or want to inspire someone else, we hope our clothing carries a little of that same breath into you.
